Sunday 4th May Bank Holiday Gigs Thanks to everyone who made the effort to come and see us over the weekend at the Cross Keys and Broadway gigs. It was great to see familiar faces and some new ones, which made playing the gigs really enjoyable for us. Some pics from the gigs below (Thanks to Mark from the Standards for the black & white Broadway pics!)
Friday 8th March Recording Done & Dusted
Just a quick update on the recording, we laid down 4 tracks last night at Hall Place Studios in Leeds with sound engineer Julian(a very nice fella!). All tracks were recorded live bar a couple of guitar overdubs and a trumpet part on "Valerie" by our multi-talented drummer Mr Banks. As well as "Valerie", we also recorded "Pinball Wizard", "A Town Called Malice" and "The Day We Caught The Train". All the tracks sound great already even though they haven't been fully mixed yet. Mixing takes place on Monday night so we should have the finished product next week, which will be promptly uploaded onto here for your delectation and delight. Keep checking back, it's exciting isn't it?
Wednesday 5th March General Updates and the like......
It's been a bit quiet on here for the past month, so I thought I'd give the old website a bit of an update. Firstly, I can safely say 2008 has got off to a great start gig-wise. We've just played to our biggest and best Roscoe crowd yet (one of regular haunts), great to see so many people enjoying the music. We've also made a lot of new friends at Acomb Rugby Club and Featherstone WMC in the past couple of months, both great venues, packed with people not afraid to dance and sing along with us, and that's not forgetting the lovely Wine-ettes from the Kettlethorpe in Wakefield who joined us for a rendition of Valerie. We're booked for return gigs at Acomb and Kettlethorpe, and are in the process of sorting out a date at Featherstone, so we're looking forward to seeing you all again soon There's a bit of exciting news in the Northern Vinyl camp also this week, which is that we are heading into the studio on Thursday to record a new cd. Once recorded, I'll be putting this up on the site for your listening pleasure(!). Keep checking back for updates on this and a report (and hopefully some pics) from the recording session.
Friday 18th January 2008 Very, Very Last Minute News Flash - Roscoe Tonight!!!!
We've been asked to fill a cancellation at the Roscoe tonight at the very last minute, so if you fancy a few beers and some great live music (and are willing to brave this horrendous weather!) come down and join us!
Thursday 3rd January 2008 Cross Christmassy Keys
Thanks to all who ventured down to the Cross Keys in Morley on Saturday for our Christmas bash, which went very well indeed!Nice to see faces old and new make the effort and have a booze up in the procees. We are still making bookings for next year so keep your eye on the gig guide which has been updated for 2008, as more announcements will follow. Our next gig is at the Acorn Rugy club in York, hope to see you there. Wishing all our followers all the best for 2008!
Wednesday 26th December End of Year bash
As you may have read in the Morley Observer, this Saturday 29th December sees us play our last gig of 2007. The Cross Keys in Morley is the venue, and we reckon it'll be one of the best this year. We hope you can make it!
Monday 26th November
Thursday was a particularly cold night, the bitter cold and rain was slightly unsettling as you can see below....
However, it wasn't enough to put the good people of Morley off coming to see some bloke from Emmerdale switch on the lights from the relative comfort of the stage while they withstood the arctic conditions! Displaying a similarly steely resolve, we played through 45mins of what was a suprisingly enjoyable and well received set. A few new songs in there, as we continue to add more current songs to our repetoire, such as "You're Not Alone" by The Enemy and a version of "Valerie" that would make Winehouse go tee-total (wonder how long it'll be before you see that springing up in other bands sets? You heard it here first!). Also, we couldn't play the switch on without playing something festive, and good old Noddy and the boys with "Merry Christmas Everybody" seemed like the obvious choice. Thanks to all who came down and cheered us on throughout the set, we hope to see you again in some warmer surroundings soon!
Monday 5th November Remember that special announcement we mentioned?......
We'll be joining Ronnie the Rhino and Santa for the switching on of Morley Christmas Lights 2007! The switch on is always a good do and this year should be the best yet, we're really looking forward to contributing to what should be a great show We were originally booked to do 2-3 songs on the main stage, but the small size of the stage and Health and Safety regs(not words in our vocabulary!) meant that we would have to mime to a backing track! As you'll probably agree there's little point in a covers band miming, so we are now going to have our own stage outside the market doors facing down Queen Street(not at the Wesley Street Junction as advertised in the press!). We'll be playing for around 45 mins as live and as loud as you have come to expect from us, kicking off at around 7pm just after the fireworks go up, so brave the weather and join us for a great night out out!
Monday 29th October Brid Scooter Rally What a weekend! Brid was a sight to be seen as scooter clubs from all over the country descended for the annual Scooter rally. We played to a packed house at the Stirling Castle on the main town street on Saturday night and it was a belter. The heat was almost unbearable and we were all crammed in like sardines, but we soon got the crowd going. There were some technical problems that hampered proceedings, due to the cramped conditions the PA speakers ended up behind the mics which created some lovely screeching feedback at regular intervals! This didnt matter though as the crowd were up and dancing throughout the set, which included some master craftmanship on the trumpet from our very own brassmaster Mark; complementing the sound beautifully.
Monday 22nd October
Bridlington Scooter Rally this weekend - 26th & 27th October Chants of "We Are The Mods" will ring through the streets and shorefronts of Bridlington this weekend, as scooterists from all over the country convene for the National Bridlington Scooter Rally 2007. The Northern Vinyl fleet (which sadly does not consist of Lambrettas and Vespas, rather three very boring hatch-backs loaded to the brim with amps and instruments!) will be making it's way to the Yorkshire sea-side town for a weekend that promises to be full of great atmosphere and, of course, great music. We will be playing two gigs over the weekend for your listening pleasure: Friday: The Stirling Castle, Queen St - 9pmSaturday: The Queens Arms, Old Town - 3pm The reception we received the last time we played Brid was brilliant and we're hoping to better that this time round as there will be so many mods in one place, so make sure you join us and we'll rip the roof off both venues! Remember, admission to both gigs is FREE, hope to see you there!
Tuesday 25th September Unfortunately, we've had to cancel the gig on Friday 28th September at the New Roscoe. Whilst this is disappointing, we can look forward to playing there on the 2nd November bigger and better than ever. Also, look out for details of the upcoming Bridlington Scooter Weekender very shortly!
Thursday 20th September Saturday saw us at the Broadway for the third time this year and as usual it didn't disappoint. The crowd were great, up and dancing right from the off until the very end. Thanks to everyone who came down to watch us (you are truly special people!), hope to see you again very soon. To those who weren't there (shame on you!), here's a taste of what you missed (expertly recorded on our no.1 fan Lorna's phone):
Tuesday 4th September Due to a mix up by the management at the Cross Keys, we have been double booked for our gig on Saturday 8th September, so unfortunately it has been cancelled. However, fear not as we are playing at the Broadway the following Saturday, which is the 15th September, hope to see you there P.S Check back soon for a very special announcement!!!!!
Sunday 1st July 2007 Things have been pretty quiet for us Northern Vinyl boys lately, since the triumphs in Bridlington and Bingley more time has been spent gardening and other generally dull pass times than blasting out some quality live music! June saw a couple of quiet gigs, Cross Keys, Morley on the 9th and The Roscoe on the 22nd. Thanks as always to those who came down to see us at both gigs, your support is greatly appreciated. I think the hot weather on the 9th drove everyone BBQ crazy and kept them in the garden rather than the boozer, which meant the crowd was a lot more “intimate” than we’re used to for the Keys, but the gig was enjoyed by all just the same. Thanks to Mav for the write up on the Keys site. The Roscoe saw a night be-set with technical problems for the poor old bass player (i.e. me), as the bass amp conked out during the sound check. A replacement was found after some frantic ringing round, but this didn’t do the stress levels any good! Great crowd down there as usual, with some of the best rehearsed dance routines I’ve seen this side of Bruce Forsythe! Thanks to all who made the effort. July is gonna be a busy one for us, starting with the Broadway in Beeston on Saturday. Hope you can all make it down, it’s always a great night and it’d be nice to really pack it out for the new owners. Also, we are playing a fundraiser for Churwell chiefs Rugby team at Ackroyd Street Working Mans Club on the Saturday 21st July, as well as a couple of private parties to keep us out of mischief. Look out for more gig announcements soon as well as details about the big Bridlington Scooter Weekender in October, which we’re really excited about. Hope to see you at the next gig!
Saturday 12th May 2007 Bingley and Bridlington were our gig destinations this week and the crowds at both were absolutely amazing. The Surburban Style Bar lot certainly knew how to enjoy themselves, and during our second set the atmosphere was electric. It nearly even cleared two very severe hangovers! Thanks to Dave for bunging us the extra £50 quid to keep playing, looking forward to seeing you all up there again sometime soon. Thanks to all those who made it to the Queens Arms in Brid on Saturday, especially those from the scooter club. You all made the night really special for us, and the constant dancing and cheering really made it into probably our best set ever. We'll be seeing you in October for the Scooter Rally.
Saturday 17 March 2007 St. Patrick’s Day, top audience and our best set to date, if I do say so myself, added up to another great gig at the Cross Keys. Thanks to Jacko and the boys for their support and getting people up dancing, although I think plums are out of season now. Also, thanks to all our Friends, Family and MySpace friends for coming and making the night what it was. See you at the Welly.
Saturday 10 March 2007 A big thank you to everyone who came to see us at the Broadway on Saturday. It was easily the biggest, and the best crowd we’ve played to, and the atmosphere was amazing. Special thanks go to Buster Gonads and the boys for their support and Northern Soul dancing. Although we prefer to have women’s underwear thrown at us. You can like us, just not that much... it’s very wrong. Also, big thanks to Paul and the gang from Bar Ropa. Great to see you all, and I will make it out for a drink next time. Apologies for finishing earlier than normal, but we didn’t know about the new noise restrictions. We’ll make up for it next time. Until then…
Wednesday 21 February 2007 Cross Keys 3rd March re-scheduled for the 17th March Just to let you know we are now playing the Keys on Sat 17th March (St Patrick's Day), rather than the 3rd.
Friday 1 December 2006 In an effort to get down with the kids, we now have a page on My Space. We are hoping to get more interactive with the people who come to see us and this seems like the best way to do it. So, head over to www.myspace.com/northernvinyluk and add us as a friend today(make us look popular!)
Monday 22 January 2007 We are playing at The New Roscoe in Leeds tomorrow night (Saturday 2nd December). As you probably know, the Roscoe is the one of the best places for live music in the city and this being our first gig there we hope you can join us to make it a memorable night. We'll be kicking off around 9:15, we hope to see you there! Unfortunately, Fuzzy's (previously known as Bar Ropa) in Armley, has closed down which means there'll be no gig on the 9th. This is sad news for us as we always got a warm reception from the staff and the customers alike and it was one of our regular haunts. We wish Paul all the best for the future and hope he finds himself another bar as soon as possible! Also, while we're here, we'd just like to thank everyone who has been to see us over the course of our first year on the Leeds circuit. We've played to some brilliant crowds who have continued to support us as the year has gone on. We're already filling up bookings for 2007 and look forward to more great gigs next year. Our last gig of this year is at the Millhouse in Gildersome, which on past experiences there should be a 'Christmas' cracker (crap joke I know, sorry), hope to see you there! Have a great Christmas

Message board
Gig Update Also, look out for us in Gildersome on 14th Oct at the Millhouse (we're hoping for a free feed to be thrown in!), then at the world famous (!) Cross Keys in our home-town of Morley on 4th November to warm you up over the Bonfire weekend. If you cant make it to any of those and the thought of missing a Northern Vinyl gig is causing you undue inconvenience/upset/despair, don't worry, all is not lost as more gigs are in the pipeline and details will be on the site soon, check back for updates. We hope to see you at the next gig!
Tuesday 20 June 2006 - What a week! Thanks to everyone who came down to see us this week at the Duck & Drake on Thursday and the Carriers in Morley on Saturday. These were the most eventful and enjoyable gigs we have played to date, although for slightly different reasons! The England game had left one or two people a little worse for wear by the time we kicked off the first song at the Duck & Drake on Thursday, and this mixed with us knocking out songs like Wont Get Fooled Again and Going Underground led to a few stage invasions! This resulted in guitars being knocked out of tune and mics hitting Andy in the mouth, as well as the bar being shut early and the second set being cut short (Songs by The Jam especially seem to send drunken males demented!). Despite the problems, the other 98% of the crowd were fantastic and really got into the music. Look out for us back at the Duck & Drake soon. The Carriers crowd on Saturday were a much more friendly lot and were the best crowd we have played to yet, the pub was packed and everyone stayed until the end of the night. The atmosphere in the place spurred us on to play the best set we have ever played, all three of us felt we could have played on and on, even after the three encores that the crowd demanded! We hope to see you again when we play on the 14th July.
